One of the things I really love about Attack on Titan is how it’s just taken for granted that women can be just as good soldiers as men. No one doubts Mikasa’s excellence in combat because of her gender. No one mocks male characters by saying they were beaten by a girl. Background groups of soldiers are almost never entirely male like they are in so many other series. Women in the military is treated as completely normal, and that’s incredibly refreshing to see.
